Mastercraft was incorporated in 1987, in a partnership between the original founder James Unger and Gary Darling. Kim Darling joined the firm shortly after and took on the role of Office Manager. Jim and Gary performed most of the work in and out of the office for the first couple years, before bringing on apprentices to share the heavy workload. They also chose to make the government a primary focus of their contracting efforts; this decision not only assured their success in building the young company, it gave them the knowledge and the confidence to compete with much larger firms in both the public and private sector.
The first job Mastercraft performed for the government was an air conditioning system upgrade at the SeaTac Airport air traffic control tower. Since that time we have completed thousands of commercial and public works projects for a wide variety of customers. The continued focus on public projects has allowed Mastercraft to grow one of the most skilled and experienced construction crews in the industry. Our electricians are cross trained in a wide variety of disciplines, from telephone and fiber optics to medium-voltage substations.
Jim Unger retired in 1994, turning over the reigns to the Darlings.
In 1996, Chad Walior joined the company as an assistant estimator and project manager. Pretty big title for a 16-year old still in high school. His role expanded quickly, however, and today is managing all aspects of Mastercraft Electric. Gary served as President of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Washington from 1999 thru 2000, and remains with Mastercraft as its Electrical Administrator.
Martin Reilly, one of the earliest electricians of the company, is now an estimator. Marty also organizes the annual golf tournament at Mill Creek for the Northwest Chapter of the Spinal Cord Society.
Becky Bellin is in charge of all accounting funtions; Caitlin Brown handles general business administration.
